About Yoga and Pilates
People often associate yoga with stretching. While this association bears some truth, yoga is also a fantastic tool for building physical strength and mental serenity. Yoga combines breath and movement through a series of poses that create strength, balance and flexibility. There are many styles of yoga out there and at PureFit we encourage each student to tap into their body's inner wisdom when moving through each posture for maximal safety and effectiveness. We are happy to give modifications and we work to create a supportive space where you can explore the gifts of your mind, body and breath. Yoga is a powerful practice that has been known to relieve chronic back pain, promote weight loss, increase energy, improve mental health and decrease stress levels.

Pilates is an an excellent strength training routine that creates long lean muscles - think tone rather than bulk. Pilates exercises are known for slimming and sculpting typical problem areas like the stomach, hips and thighs. By drawing in the navel and scooping out the abdominals, Pilates quickly flattens the stomach area by training the muscles to contract inward toward the spine. This technique is not only great for quickly losing inches around the waistline, it also creates a strong tight core that supports back health. Although very challenging, Pilates is considered low-impact and easy on the joints. Each exercise also has a series of available modifications so it can be effectively performed at any fitness level. Pilates promotes core strength, body alignment, improved posture and flexibility.
